Treat Yourself Like a Client in 2019

It’s so easy to get caught in the minutia of client work that you forget about your #1 client – you. The result? Your clients prosper, but your brand becomes stale and, quite possibly, forgettable. When you treat yourself like you would your top client, you open doors for unexpected opportunities. Here are some quick and easy ways to elevate your brand (and hopefully your revenue) in 2019.

Schedules Meetings…With Yourself

How would a client feel if you set a goal only to let it pass unattended? Be diligent and intentional with your actions. Schedule yourself into your calendar. Establish a set time, duration, and agenda – just as you would for a client. Maybe you need to spend an hour visiting your P&L statement; perhaps the entire afternoon needs to be blocked off, so you can run through some BD strategy; or, maybe you spend time curating content for social media. Meet with yourself, go through your task list, and when your allotted time is over, make a follow-up appointment with yourself and get on your calendar again.

Self-promote Like Nobody Is Watching

Set up a Google Alert for yourself as well as for your business. You don’t know when you’re being mentioned if you’re not tracking you, right? Stay on top of your brand and what’s being said about it. There’s no shame in a little self-promotion via social media. If you don’t do it, chances are, no one else will – and what a wasted opportunity for free PR!

Also, in today’s digital world, people often go to social media just as frequently as a company’s website to learn more about their products and services. If your social media page is stagnant or unimpressive, it may be a poor reflection of your brand. Take a few minutes to visit your social media pages, then go look at your competition. Collect Those Testimonials

Third party testimonials are an incredible way to let people know that you’re here and that you’re amazing! Just like earned media placements are more trustworthy than paid advertising, the same goes for a testimonial. Reach out to your client base, past and present, as well as industry peers and ask them to provide you with a brief summary of their work experience with you. You’ll be surprised how willing people are to help!

It’s crucial to dedicate time to reflect on your business in order to feel centered and in control. Maintaining a strong brand allows you to go forth and attract new business confidently because it’s easier to sell yourself that way. Deliberately curate testimonials and promote yourself with a laser focus. As long as you’re scheduling regular meetings to assess how your business is doing, you’ll be able to sustain new growth instead of hitting a wall because you weren’t looking ahead.
